The School of Planning and Public Affairs and the Department of Political Science recently partnered with the Big Ten Collaboration: Democracy in the 21st Century on a mayors forum, "Cities on the front line: Urban approaches to national issues."

Associate Professor Phuong Nguyen recently received Best Paper Award from the Midwest Public Affairs Conference. The paper, “Impact of home rule on municipal boundary and fiscal expansion: Evidence from Texas,” is forthcoming in the Journal of Regional Science.

Today’s transportation problems transcend disciplinary boundaries. The new Online Certificate in Transportation Planning at the UI School of Planning and Public Affairs prepares professionals to face this challenge.

Two SPPA alums have received induction into the AICP College of Fellows, the American Institute of Certified Planners’ highest honor given to a member. Richard Gertson and James G. LaRue were inducted on May 1st at an awards ceremony during the American Planning Association (APA) conference in San Diego.
