Second-year Master's degree students from the School of Urban and Regional Planning are applying their talents and knowledge to help Downtown Partners, Inc. in Burlington, Iowa. The goal is to collect data that will enable the city to identify businesses clusters; decide if there is adequate parking downtown; assist real estate agents, developers and out-of-town business people looking for a location; and to keep contact information for businesses in case notification is needed during an emergency. The students' engagement with Downtown Partners, Inc. is part of the School's Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities which creates student-faculty-community collaborations annually that focus on some of the most important problems faced by communities in Iowa and the Midwest. An article with details about the project in Burlington recently appeared in the web edition of The Hawk Eye newspaper. (Photo by John Gaines of The Burlington Hawk Eye.)
